I wanna care

Posted By on June 21, 2011

As I’m driving to work this morning, I get passed up by one of these over done up wanne-be race cars like you see in the Too Fat Bi-curious movies or what ever the hell they’re called cause I can’t watch that crap.  Anyhow, he has one of these huge No Fear stickers on his back window like he’s got some sponsorship from this company to tool around town in his Bondo colored Toyota.  So at the next stop sign I pushed his ass into the intersection.  That little bastard sure had a change of heart real quick.

Actually that didn’t happen, but I did think about it for a second and I started wondering, am I turning into the old curmudgeon that will  eventually sit on his front porch and scream at people to get off my lawn?  I guess as long as I have an unlimited supply of cigars and a pair of Dockers I wear just below my armpits, anything is possible. I dont-caresuppose just having a birthday recently made me ponder, if only shortly, the process of getting older and what I realized about myself is that I didn’t get caught up with things more normal bipeds would concern themselves with after another trip around the sun such as where am I at in life, what have I accomplished with my time here on this pebble we call earth, what will be my legacy or why I struggle to remember if it was Bill Paxton or Bill Pullman in the movie Independence Day?  What I figured out is that I am just getting more cynical and really just don’t give a shit about, well most stuff.

I’d really like to care more about the things other people do, in my last post I mentioned how I figured by the time I got to the age I am now that I would enjoy sitting down to watch the evening news every night to stay tuned into global events.  Now more often than not I find myself in a conversation where my buddy will say,
“Did you see the Presidents speech last night?”
No, I missed it.
“How the hell could you miss his speech man?”
Well, I guess I have more channels than you do.   Unless they put it on Nickelodeon I missed it.

There are plenty of things I do care about but what I notice about me is that if it doesn’t affect me directly, I could usually care less.  As an example, the wife and I have a cat for a pet, because we like animals and they need very minimal effort to keep unlike dogs who will piss all over your house and then leave you little presents to find while mowing your lawn.  Owning a cat means I like my cat but I really don’t give a shit about your cat.  See what I mean?  I’m caught up in my own little world trying to navigate this road of life and looking at the gaudy over sized billboards of everyone else’s life has become far too distracting for me because let’s face it, if I gave a damn about anyone else I’d be reading their blog instead of writing my own.

CRA_SKTCH1One thing I do care about is my right to enjoy a legal product in moderation and that is why I am not only a member of the Cigar Rights of America, but also an ambassador for this organization.  I am sure you guys are all familiar with what they do to protect our rights everyday fighting against poorly thought out legislation aimed at ridding the world of smokers but without our help they can’t continue to effectively fight for our freedoms. As an increased incentive for you guys to help join this fight, for one of the few things I care about, I’ll offer up a FREE cigar on top of the two you’ll get from the CRA for signing up.  It only takes $35 bucks to get involved with this awesome organization so please think about signing up.  I will have application forms at our next cigar night so don’t be surprised when I ask you fill one out.

Ah yes, Cigar Night!  Don’t forget that due to the extended holiday week end we’ll be moving our July Cigar Night to the 12th which is 2nd Tuesday of the month instead of the first.  Look at a calendar if you need to in order to help you figure it out.  We’ll be at Brother Scottii’s house which is located at 1332 Doty Street right here in Green Bay.  Bring a lawn chair, your beverage of choice and some munchies to pass if you’re not too stingy.

I know some of you are already freaking out because you’re not sure if you can make it that extra week to Cigar Night with out seeing me so please make sure you email me to reserve your spot on our Booze and Cigar Cruise planned for July 7th.  Weather permitting, we’ll be chilling out with drink and cigar in hand on Brother Jimmy C’s boat so make sure you sign up because it will be a great evening.  I’ll have time and location details once we know our final numbers.

Hopefully I’ll see some of you gents this weekend at Little Sturgeon Days for some fun in the sun (if it ever comes back out) and some cold beers.  12 Volt Band goes on stage around 3:30 and I’ll be hoisting a few cold ones and toasting a few stogies after our show so stick around and have one with me.

Have a great week my Brothers,  HEY GET OFF MY LAWN!
